How to set a clan crest in Lineage 2

A Lineage 2 clan crest is set by the clan leader or by a member the leader gave crest rights to. The clan must be level 3 or higher, otherwise the game will not accept the image. Only a 256-color BMP of exactly 16×12 works, so every clan crest in the gallery is already saved that way.

1. Pick a crest and click “Clan 16×12” to download a ready BMP.
2. Put the file into the game client’s System folder. Then the file name is enough, for example l2king-p12-clan.bmp. If the file is in another folder, enter the full path, for example C:\crest.bmp.
3. In game, open the clan window (Alt+N) and press the set crest button.
4. Choose the file and confirm — the crest appears next to the nickname of every clan member.

Lineage 2 alliance crest

An alliance is founded by a level 5 clan, and only the alliance leader can set the alliance crest. The format is the same 256-color BMP, sized 8×12. Download it with “Alliance 8×12”, put it into the System folder and type /allycrest in chat to open the file dialog. To remove the alliance crest, use /deletealliancecrest.

In game the alliance crest is shown in front of the clan crest, so the gallery pairs follow the same order: alliance on the left, clan on the right.

Clan and alliance crest as one picture

A pair is a clan crest and an alliance crest drawn as one 24×12 picture: the left 8 pixels become the alliance crest and the right 16 the clan crest, so above a character they form a single image. “Both files ZIP” downloads both parts at once; they are set separately — the clan part from the clan window, the alliance part with /allycrest. No alliance? Take the clan part, or a crest from the “Clan only” tab.

Why the clan crest won’t set

• Not 256 colors. The game accepts only 8-bit BMP. A renamed PNG or JPG, or a 24-bit BMP, will not work. Gallery and converter files are already in the right format.
• Wrong size. A clan crest is exactly 16×12, an alliance crest 8×12.
• No rights or low level. The clan is below level 3, or your character has no right to change the crest.
• Clan is being dissolved. During dissolution the crest can be neither set nor removed.
• Wrong file path. The easiest way is to keep the BMP in the System folder and type only the file name.
• Server rules. Some servers limit crests or change them through the server website — ask the administration.

Large clan insignia

Besides the small crest, a clan can have a large insignia — a 64×64 image in 256-color BMP. It is shown on clan items and is available only to a clan that owns a castle or a clan hall. It is registered with a button in the clan window.
