To play on a private server you need a clean Lineage 2 client of the same chronicle the server runs, plus that server's patch. The client is the game itself: maps, models, sounds. The patch (the system folder) comes from the server and tunes the client for that project. Always install the patch on a clean client: builds "with extras" from other servers often clash with a new patch and cause crashes or login errors.
Below are clients for all popular chronicles. You can download Lineage 2 via a torrent file or a magnet link, no registration needed. How to install the Lineage 2 client
- Download the torrent file for your chronicle and open it in a torrent client (qBittorrent, uTorrent, etc.), or click "Magnet".
- When the download finishes, run the installer or extract the archive to a folder with Latin characters only in its path, e.g. C:\Games\Lineage2.
- Download the patch from your server's website and replace the client's system folder with it.
- Launch the game the way your server says (usually l2.exe in the system folder or the project launcher).
FAQ
Which client does my server need?
The one matching the server's chronicle. It's listed in the announcement and on the project site; for Classic and Essence also check the client version. If the server offers its own full client, use that.
The torrent takes long to start. What should I do?
Wait a few minutes while your torrent client finds peers via trackers and DHT. Make sure DHT is enabled and that your antivirus or ISP doesn't block the torrent client. You can also try the magnet link.
Is the client really clean?
Yes: the clients contain no server patches, extras or edits — just the game itself. You install the patch your server provides. If in doubt, check the installer on VirusTotal before running it.
My antivirus complains after installing a patch.
Server patches often change the client's protection, and antiviruses react to that. Only download patches from your server's official website.
Where can I get a clean patch?
