The Warlord is a human fighter with a polearm built to take down a whole pack of mobs at once: spinning strikes, area stuns and aggro pulls. At level 76 he becomes a Dreadnought. This Lineage 2 Warlord guide covers Interlude: class quests, skills by level, what doesn't stack, gear by grade, where to level, dyes, subclasses and the Olympiad. Every number comes from the server datapack.
Warlord at a glance
| Role | area damage: gather a pack, stun it and finish it with spins; in a party — pulls mobs and hits the crowd |
| Weapon | polearm only: none of the 2nd and 3rd class attack skills can be used without one — see "Warlord gear" |
| Armor | heavy or light, there are passives for both |
| Dyes | STR and DEX at the cost of CON, CON for survival |
| Where to level | 20–40 — The Ant Nest, Catacomb of the Heretic; 40–52 — Catacomb of the Branded, Garden of Eva; 52–61 — Archaic Laboratory, Catacomb of the Apostate; 61–76 — Tower of Insolence, Stakato Nest; 76–80 — Hall of Flames, Varka and Ketra |
A human fighter starts with STR 40, CON 43, DEX 30. Against a single target the Warlord deals less damage than a Gladiator, but he clears a pack faster than most fighters.
How to get the classes
| Class | Level | Quest |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | 20 | Path to a Warrior from Auron, available from level 19 — Warlord 1st class quest |
| Warlord | 40 | three marks: Trial of the Challenger (from 35, Kash in Dion), Testimony of Trust (from 37, Hollint in Oren, humans only), Test of the Champion (from 39, Ascalon, Warrior and Orc Raider only); the class change itself is done by a warrior guild Grand Master, for example Klaus Blackbird in Oren or Hannavalt in Giran |
| Dreadnought | 76 | Saga of the Dreadnought from Aiken, main class only — Warlord 3rd class quest |
On top of adena and XP, Saga of the Dreadnought rewards a
Secret Book of Giants — keep it for your first skill enchant.
How to play a Warlord in Interlude
Solo packs. A Warlord doesn't kill mobs one at a time — he pulls them together. The rotation:
Provoke — nearby mobs come at you, by level 60 within a 900 radius; 15-second reuse.
Howl — enemies within a 200 radius get P. Atk. ×0.77 for 15 seconds, 8-second reuse. The pack hits you noticeably softer.
Thunder Storm — a 1,735-power strike in a 150 radius plus a 9-second stun, 20-second reuse.
Whirlwind — a 2,283-power strike in the same 150 radius, 17-second reuse. Auto-attack between skills: the polearm already hits several mobs in front of you.
Shock Stomp — a second 9-second stun that makes mobs drop their target; 12-second reuse.
Fell Swoop lets your polearm auto-attack hit up to 5 targets for 60 seconds (120-second reuse) — use it once the pack is gathered.
Battle Roar raises Max HP ×1.35 for 10 minutes and instantly heals 25.7% HP. Skip it while
Blessed Body is on you — see "What doesn't stack".
Single target. On a raid boss or a tough mob turn on
Focus Attack: for 120 seconds the polearm hits only one target, crit power ×1.3, Accuracy +6; 270-second reuse. On a pack it hurts you — you stop hitting the mobs next to your target.
Low HP.
Final Frenzy adds P. Atk. +129.3 on its own while your HP is at 30% or lower.
Revival can only be used at 5% HP or lower and restores all of your HP; reuse — one hour. It's an emergency button, not a way to tank a pack.
Buffs for leveling

What doesn't stack for the Warlord
Battle Roar and
Blessed Body / Body of Avatar. Same type, and the order equals the skill level. What matters is your
Battle Roar level versus the level of the other buff on you: lower — it won't remove it; equal — it replaces it (the one cast last stays); higher — it always replaces it. If the
Blessed Body on you is the same level as your
Battle Roar or lower, leave
Battle Roar alone: it would knock off a 20-minute buff for its own 10 minutes. If
Blessed Body is higher level,
Battle Roar won't touch it.- Detect skills — only one at a time.
Detect Animal Weakness,
Detect Plant Weakness,
Detect Monster Weakness,
Detect Dragon Weakness and
Detect Insect Weakness from the 1st class share one type: a new one removes the previous. Pick the one that matches the mobs in your zone. On the 3rd class
Eye of Hunter and
Eye of Slayer have higher order: Detect can no longer remove them, and only one of the two holds at a time. - Stuns.
Thunder Storm has order 1,
Shock Stomp and
Shock Blast have 2. A
Shock Stomp stun overrides a
Thunder Storm stun, but not the other way round: on a mob already stunned by
Shock Stomp,
Thunder Storm lands as damage only.
Howl shares its type with
Power Break,
Curse: Weakness and Sanctuary at equal order: the last one applied stays on the target.

The full 3rd class costs 283,000,000 SP, and more than half of it — 150 million — goes into
Symbol of Honor alone. Its book
Ancient Tactical Manual: Symbol of Honor isn't sold in shops: it drops from Tyrannosaurus lv. 87 at 33.33% in one drop category and 2.94% in another. The book is only required on servers with the SpBookNeeded setting turned on; with it off,
Symbol of Honor is learned for SP.
The Dreadnought's core combo is
Earthquake around you and
Shock Blast at range: both have a 30-second reuse and both cost HP — 340 and 507. Go into the combo at full HP: use potions, and
Battle Roar only if you don't have
Blessed Body or Body of Avatar on you.
Warlord skill enchanting
From level 76 the 2nd class skills can be enchanted to +30 along one of two routes. The first step is unlocked by a
Secret Book of Giants; every step costs SP and XP. The higher the step, the lower the chance, and the chance rises with character level — so people enchant at 78–80. 3rd class skills can't be enchanted in Interlude.
| Skill | Route 1, at +30 | Route 2, at +30 |

| power 2,899 | MP 53 | |

Start with
Whirlwind on the power route: it's your main damage against a pack. For
Thunder Storm, route 1 is the stun, route 2 is power and MP.
Warlord gear
The Warlord moves to a new grade at levels 20, 40, 52, 61 and 76. One polearm does every job — it's two-handed, so no shield, and the set's shield bonus is lost.

Imperial Crusader lets you survive the pack, Draconic kills it faster. A polearm swings slower than a one-handed sword, so attack speed bonuses are worth more to a Warlord than they look. Jewelry — the best you can afford: on B the

Majestic Necklace, on S —
Tateossian Necklace.
Where to level a Warlord
A Warlord wants spots where mobs stand close together: the more of them around you, the more XP a single skill rotation brings. The tables list the zones with the best XP per mob HP and two notable drops each; chances are at x1 rate, the mob's level is shown next to its name.

Warlord dyes
You get three slots. The Warlord can use dyes for STR, DEX, CON, INT and WIT; there are none for MEN.
| Goal | Dyes |
|---|---|
| damage on packs | |
| you keep dying in packs |
The two damage dyes add up to STR +4, DEX +4, CON −8; a third STR dye makes it STR +5, DEX +4, CON −9. Your HP comes from a set that gives HP: Full Plate, Doom, Imperial Crusader. INT and WIT do nothing for a fighter.
Subclasses for a Warlord
A subclass is taken from level 75: your main class and every subclass you already have must reach it. With default server settings there's no subclass without the Mimir's Elixir and Fate's Whisper quests; the maximum is three.
- Warlord as the main class. Any 2nd class works as a subclass except your own, Overlord and Warsmith. People usually pick a different role: a buffer or healer for the party — Prophet, Warcryer, Bishop — or a Gladiator for single-target fights.
- Warlord as a subclass. It's taken for fast pack leveling when your main class is something else. aCis code has no restrictions on Warlord as a subclass, but the list offered by a given subclass master depends on his race and type.
In Interlude subclass skills don't carry over to the main class: they only work while the subclass is active. High Five has subclass certification.
Warlord or Gladiator
| Warlord | Gladiator | |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | polearm, area strikes | dual swords, single-target strikes |
| Strength | packs, pulling mobs, area stuns | duels, raid bosses, one-on-one PvP |
| Shared | same |
On dense spots the Warlord levels faster. The Gladiator is stronger against a single target and in the Olympiad. If you play with a buffer in a second window and like pulling packs — go Warlord; if you're after bosses and PvP — Gladiator.
Warlord in the Olympiad
The Olympiad is open to Noblesse only and on the main class only — with a subclass active you can't start a match. There the Dreadnought relies on
Shock Blast (stun and target defense ×0.7),
Wrath (−30% CP in front of you),
Howl against fighters and
Braveheart for 1,000 CP.
Lionheart and
War Frenzy keep you standing against enemy stuns.
Battle Force is useless in the Olympiad — you have no allies in the match, and
Symbol of Honor can't be used there.

📖 — by Interlude code level 1 of the skill is learned from a spellbook; many servers disable spellbooks and it is learned for SP.
Other classes are in the Lineage 2 classes section. A Warlord grows fast on a fresh server with dense spots: check launch dates and rates in the list of Lineage 2 Interlude servers and Interlude+ projects, and all new launches in L2 server announcements.
