How class changes work in Lineage 2
A character starts with the base class of its race and changes class three times: 1st class from level 20, 2nd class from 40, 3rd class from 76. The first needs one quest (1st class quest), the second three marks (2nd class quest), the third a saga (3rd class quest). The 3rd class does not change the role — it continues the 2nd class with new skills, so we cover both on one page.
L2 races and classes
Before the Kamael chronicle there are five races — Humans, Elves, Dark Elves, Orcs and Dwarves. Each race has two base classes, fighter and mystic; Dwarves have only a fighter. In total that is 9 base classes, 18 classes at the 1st change, 31 at the 2nd and 31 at the 3rd. The Kamael race came later — see Lineage 2 chronicles in order.
Class roles in a party
- Tanks — Paladin, Dark Avenger, Temple Knight, Shillien Knight: hold mobs and raid bosses.
- Melee fighters — Gladiator, Warlord, Destroyer, Tyrant: main melee damage.
- Daggers — Treasure Hunter, Plains Walker, Abyss Walker: backstab crits, strong in PvP.
- Archers — Hawkeye, Silver Ranger, Phantom Ranger: ranged damage.
- Nukers — Sorcerer, Necromancer, Spellsinger, Spellhowler: magic damage.
- Summoners — Warlock, Elemental Summoner, Phantom Summoner: fight with pets.
- Healers and buffers — Bishop, Prophet, Elven Elder, Shillien Elder, Warcryer, Overlord: heal and buff the party.
- Songs and dances — Swordsinger, Bladedancer: buff the whole party for 2 minutes.
- Dwarves — Bounty Hunter, Warsmith: the spoiler gathers materials, the crafter makes items from them.
Which class to pick as a beginner
Summoners and archers are the easiest to level solo: they attack from range and rarely die. Parties and clans most readily take healers and buffers — Bishop, Prophet, Warcryer, Swordsinger and Bladedancer: nobody goes to raids or sieges without them. Nukers and daggers are strong in PvP but harder to play. Dwarves run the server economy: the spoiler gathers materials and the crafter turns them into weapons and armor.
Class skills
Each class page lists every skill by level: when it is learned, its SP and MP cost, what it does at max level and whether it needs a spellbook. The numbers come from server game data, not forum retellings. Class guides come out one by one: finished ones are bright in the grid above, the rest are on the way.
